Zhao Zhiqian

  • Zhao Zhiqian, courtesy name was Yi Fu, art name was Leng Jun, later he changed to Hui Shu. He was born in Guiji Zhejiang (now Shaoxing), a prominent calligrapher, painter, and seal carving artist of the Qing Dynasty. He was a representative of the New Zhe School, and together with Ren Bonian and Wu Changshuo as “the three great painters of the late QingDynasty”.

      Zhao Zhiqian, his courtesy name was Yifu, his art name was Lengjun, later he changed his courtesy name to Huishu, and his art names were changed to Bei'an, Mei'an, and Wumen. Born in Shaoxing. Famous calligrapher and seal engraver of the Qing dynasty. Along with Wu Changshuo and Li Liangyu, he is one of the three representatives of the "New Zhe School". Along with Ren Bonian and Wu Changshuo, he is known as one of the three great painters of the late Qing dynasty.

      Wu Changshuo (1844-1927), a prominent Chinese calligrapher, painter and seal carver of the late Qing Dynasty, formerly known as Jun Qing, courtesy name was Changshuo, art name was Kutie, born in Anji Zhejiang. In his childhood, he was influenced by his father and began to like painting and seal carving. He learned regular script from Yan Lugong and Zhong Yuanchang, clerical script from Han Dynasty stone carving, seal script from Tang Dynasty stone carving. The brushwork was influenced by Deng Shiru and Zhao Zhiqian. He was good at painting flowers and had a unique style of painting such as brush movement and composition. In ink brushes, flowers such as plums and peony, trees and stones were noble and beautiful, and his brushstrokes were vigorous and breathtaking.
