Ren Xun

  • Ren Xun (任薰), styled Shunqin (舜琴) and also known as Fuchang (阜長), was a painter from Zhejiang during the Qing Dynasty. Influenced by his father and elder brothers, Ren Xun achieved high mastery in various subjects such as figures, flowers, birds, and landscapes. He was especially skilled in the technique of double-outline flower and bird painting. In his time, he was widely praised and renowned, with many referring to him as "Ren Fuchang, renowned for his skill in painting."

      Gu Yun (顧澐), courtesy name Ruobo (若波), and also known by various pseudonyms such as Yunhu (雲壺), Huyin (壺隱), Huong (壺翁), Yunhu Waishi (雲壺外史), Junchuan (濬川), Shōmo (頌墨), and Binghe (病鶴), with studio names Zizaishi (自在室) and Xiaoyuxian Guan (小遊仙館), was from Wuxian (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu). He was a commoner (布衣). Gu Yun was a skilled painter of landscapes, renowned for his clear, elegant, and ancient style. His work combined the strengths of the "Four Wangs" (Wang Shimin, Wang Jian, Wang Hui, and Wang Yuanqi), as well as the Wu school and the Yun school of painting.

      Zhao Shuru(1874-1945) was born in Yinxian (now Ningbo) Zhejiang. Original name was Run Xiang, courtesy name was Xian Chen and Shuru, later he changed his name to Shi Zhe, art name was Ren Chang, in his later years he named himself Ernu Laoren also known as Shu Ru. Late Qing Dynasty, he appointed in a government post named ‘Tong Zhi’ in Fujian Province. After the Republic of China was established, he lived in seclusion in Shanghai. He is good at epigraph, painting and calligraphy, flowers, plants, insects and animals, especially painting horses ,and can be called “the Zhao Mengfu of modern times”.
