Wang Yuan

  • Wang Yuan, courtesy name was Ruo Shui, art name was Dan Xuan and Hulin Yishi, born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou Zhejiang), a painter of the Yuan Dynasty. In his youth, he learned painting from the works of ancients under the guidance of Zhao Mengfu. He learned painting landscape from Guo Xi, bird-and-flower from Huang Quan of the late Shu Dynasty, and human figure from Wu Daoren of the Tang Dynasty. As well as Qian Xuan, he contributed to the subsequent development in bird-and-flower paintings as an important successor.
