    Dong Kang, courtesy name is Shoujing, art name is Songfen zhuren, born in Wujin, Jiangsu. In his early years, he studied at Jiangyin Nanjing Academy. Become a Enkejuren in 1889, Lianjie Jinshi in 1890. In May the same year, become a head of Ministry of Justice. Went to Imperial University of Japan to study law after the Revolution of 1911. After went back to China, worked at Donggu University, Shanghai Law University and Beijing University. Participated in drafting “The First Criminal Law Amendment” in 1915. Visited Japan many times to inspect Japanese judgment and prison system. Other than research achievements of law, he made important academic contributions in Drama, poetry and catalogue area. His "Summary of the General Catalogue of Quhaizhuang" (Volume 46) is one of the books that meticulously compiled China’s ancient dramas. Hu Shi commended him as “"The person who has made the greatest contribution to the study of folk literature in recent decades”.
