Dai Song

  • Dai Song, whose birth and death dates are unknown, was a painter during the Tang Dynasty. He was a disciple of Han Huang and served as a巡官 (a巡 official) when Han Huang was stationed in Zhejiang. Dai Song was skilled in painting rural landscapes and riverside scenes, particularly famous for his depictions of water buffaloes. His work was praised by later generations for its "wild, muscular vitality." It is said that he once painted a buffalo drinking water, capturing the reflection in the water where the lips and nose of the buffalo were connected, showcasing his exquisite observation skills.
