Lv Bisong

• Lu Bisong was an amateur ink painter whose ancestral home was Quanzhou. There are two accounts regarding the time when his family moved to Tainan City, Taiwan: one states that they relocated during the generation of his great-grandfather, while another says that they stayed in Tainan in 1920. A descendant of Lü Yangtai, a successful candidate for the Imperial examination from Tainan, Lu Bisong studied painting from an early age. He later made a living by painting in Dingdashijie, Tainan. He specialized in the Southern School style of painting, while his freehand figure paintings showed the influence of Huang Shen. He gained recognition for works depicting local life and customs. He received a First-Class Gold Medal from the Luoyang Fine Arts Association in Kyoto, Japan. His students included Xu Chunshan and Zheng Qingqi. In 1920, Chen Yufeng and Pan Chunyuan studied painting techniques under him. They later traveled to Fujian and Guangdong to further refine their skills and became renowned decorative painters. In 1930, Lu Bisong retired from painting due to illness and passed away the following year.
