Tetsugen Doko

• Tetsugen Doko was a Zen monk of the Obaku school during the early Edo period. He was posthumously honored with the title “National Master Hozo.” He was also known as Higo Shuzan-jin and initially used the name Tetsugen. In 1655, the first year of the Meireki era, he studied Zen under Ingen Ryuki, became a devotee of Zen Buddhism, and later received the Dharma transmission from Moku-an Shoto, a disciple of Ingen. He subsequently founded Zuiryu-ji Temple in Naniwa Village, Settsu Province.
