Liu Guosong

  • Liu Guosong is a Taiwanese painter whose ancestral home was Yidu, Shandong Province. At the age of 14, he began studying traditional Chinese painting in Wuchang. At 20, he turned to Western painting, and at 29, he returned to the world of ink and paper, developing what he called “Modern Ink Painting.” He settled in Taiwan in 1949. He has served as Head of the Department of Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Visiting Professor at the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin, Director of the Graduate Institute at Tainan National University of the Arts, and Honorary Professor at several leading universities and academies of fine arts in China. He currently serves as Chair Professor at National Taiwan Normal University and Director of the Institute of Contemporary Ink Art at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts.
