GAKUTEI HARUNOBU
-
GAKUTEI HARUNOBU was a pupil of Katsushika Hokusai who was active not only as an ukiyo-e artist but also as a kyōka poet and writer. He produced numerous surimono as well as illustrations for popular fiction, developing a distinctive style that combined narrative composition, graceful draftsmanship, and literary sophistication. His work exemplifies the close relationship between poetry, publishing, and printmaking in late Edo Japan, and he is regarded as an important contributor to the development of illustrated books and deluxe surimono.
