UTAGAWA TOYOHIRO

• UTAGAWA TOYOHIRO was one of the leading early masters of the Utagawa school. He excelled in landscapes, bijin-ga, and illustrated books, developing a refined style that also incorporated elements of the Kano and Maruyama traditions. He is especially remembered as the teacher of Utagawa Hiroshige, whose achievements would define landscape prints in the late Edo period. Toyohiro's teaching and artistic vision laid important foundations for the later success of the Utagawa school.
