KATSUSHIKA HOKUUN

• KATSUSHIKA HOKUUN was a ukiyo-e artist of the Katsushika school and is recognized as one of the pupils of Katsushika Hokusai. He worked across a wide range of subjects, including bijin-ga, actor prints, and book illustrations. While inheriting Hokusai's dynamic compositions and expressive designs, he developed a more restrained and elegant manner of expression. Active during the Bunka and Bunsei eras, he contributed to the flourishing publishing culture of the period and to the development of the Katsushika school.
