Shen Daokuan

• Shen Daokuan (courtesy name Lizhong) was originally from Yin County, Zhejiang (present-day Ningbo), and later registered in Daxing (present-day Beijing). An official and painter of the Qing dynasty, he obtained the jinshi degree in 1820 during the Jiaqing reign. He successively served as magistrate of Ling County and Taoyuan County in Hunan Province. He was accomplished in calligraphy and particularly skilled in landscape painting. He also authored Huashan Caotang Shichao (Collected Poems from the Huashan Cottage), demonstrating his literary talent as a poet and scholar.
