Pan Lin

  • Pan Lin, courtesy name Baozhi and art name Langpu, originally came from Xiushui (present-day Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province). He was the nephew of Pan Zhenyong and the son of Pan Zhenjie. In his youth, he studied painting under his father and uncle, inheriting a strong family artistic tradition, and specialized in paintings of ladies and flowers. As an adult, he traveled to places such as Shimen and Xiashi with his artistic skills, attracting numerous patrons seeking his paintings. His works were exhibited at the “Chinese Nanga Association” in Tokyo and received considerable praise. He stayed in Japan for six years, making friends through painting, and his reputation grew rapidly. In 1919, he resided at the Yuyuan Calligraphy and Painting Society in Shanghai, where his fame as a painter further increased. After 1923, he returned to Pinghu and devoted himself to painting at home.
