Lin Qian

  • Lin Qian, courtesy name Shifu, was a native of Longxi and a political figure of the Ming dynasty who achieved the rank of Tanhua (third place in the imperial examination). Born in Kinmen, he passed the highest-level imperial examination in 1616 during the Wanli era, ranking third among the first-class graduates, and was appointed Compiler at the Hanlin Academy. He later served as Director of the Imperial Academy and was promoted to Chancellor of the Imperial Academy. However, after offending Wei Zhongxian, he was demoted. In the first year of the Chongzhen era (1628), he was reinstated to his former post and promoted to Vice Minister of Rites and Reader-in-Waiting Academician of the Hanlin Academy. In 1632, he was appointed Grand Secretary of the Dongge Pavilion and entered the Grand Secretariat. He died in 1636 and was posthumously honored with the title Wenmu.
