"Gao Kai, courtesy name Zicai and also Zigao, pseudonym Shuangquan, was a native of Renhe, Zhejiang, and a calligrapher active during the Qianlong, Jiaqing and Daoguang periods of the Qing dynasty. Gao Kai abandoned his studies for the imperial examinations at an early age to devote himself entirely to calligraphy; he followed the Zhe School and captured the essence of Ouyang Xun and Chu Suiliang."
