Wang Luonian

"Wang Luo-nian, with the character name Sheqi and the pen name Ouke, was a native of Qiantang (present-day Hangzhou). He studied under Dai Yong-bo, and his landscape paintings were in the style of Dai Xi. His work was characterised by a high, pure and elegant quality, earning him renown alongside Shen Tang. He was also skilled in calligraphy and seal-carving. In the late Qing dynasty, he served as a drawing teacher at the Hubei and Hunan Normal School. After the Xinhai Revolution, he settled in Shanghai to sell his paintings, becoming one of the leading figures of the Shanghai School."
