Liao Xien

  • Liao Xien, courtesy name Shuxian and sobriquet Master of the Ziyu Pavilion, was a native of Boluo County, Guangdong. In the 11th year of the Xianfeng reign (1861), he attained the status of bagong (recommended tribute student). In November of the 3rd year of the Guangxu reign (1877), he was appointed to Japan as an Instructor (jiaoyu) with the rank of regular eighth grade, initially serving as an attaché. In the 5th year of the Guangxu reign (1879), he became Chief Secretary (Zheng Lishiguan) in Kobe.
