Ma Yuanyu

Ma Yuanyu was a painter of the Qing dynasty, courtesy name Fuxi, and known by the sobriquets Qixia and Tianyu Shanren. He was a native of Changshu, Jiangsu. He studied sketching from life under Yun Shouping and became a core member of the Changzhou School. He also received instruction in painting techniques from Jiang Tingxi. Ma Yuanyu excelled in the boneless (mogǔ) painting technique, skillfully integrating color washes with linear outlines. His works are characterized by an elegant, free-weeling style that balances meticulous execution with expressive brushwork.
