Zhou Chumei

  • Zhou Youmei, personal name Yu, courtesy name Youmei, and sobriquet Pansong Daoren, was a painter from Suzhou active during the Daoguang and Tongzhi reigns of the Qing dynasty. He excelled in paintings of flowers and birds, grasses and insects, as well as landscapes. His brushwork is refined, elegant, and free from vulgarity. He once traveled to Japan to teach Chinese learning, where he enjoyed a high reputation among Nanga (Southern School) painters.
