YABUUCHI SATOSHI

  • YABUUCHI SATOSHI is a Japanese sculptor and researcher of cultural property preservation and restoration. He graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts and studied Buddhist statue restoration at its graduate school. In 1987, he became an independent sculptor. His works, often made of wood or bronze, use the figure of a child as a symbolic motif to express vitality and Buddhist worldviews. He has created many public installations guided by the concept of ART FOR THE PUBLIC. He designed the official mascot Sentokun for the 2010 Heijo Capital 1300th Anniversary. He has served as a professor at Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School and as director of the Nara Prefectural Museum of Art, contributing broadly to both sculpture and cultural property preservation.
