KO RAKUSUI, born in Luoyang, China, is a painter working primarily in Nihonga (Japanese painting). After studying traditional Chinese painting at Beijing Language and Culture University, she earned a Ph.D. in Japanese painting from Kyoto University of Art and Design. Her works feature delicately rendered female figures executed with mineral pigments, ink, and metal leaf, blending refinement with quiet emotional depth. Often depicting women in Tang-, Qing-, or Japanese-style garments, she merges classical elegance with a contemporary sensibility, creating an atmosphere of poetic stillness. Her art harmonizes the aesthetics of China and Japan into a distinctive vision of grace and strength.
