Jiang Lian

  • Jiang Lian, courtesy names Junxian, Junguang, and Xianghu, with art names Xianghu Jushi and Xianghu Daoren, was a painter from Xiaolan, Xiangshan, Guangdong (present-day Zhongshan) during the Qing dynasty. Out of admiration for Chen Hongshou (art name Laolian), he changed his name to Lian. He excelled in figure painting, landscapes, and flower-and-bird painting, with particular skill in paintings of women. His style followed the methods of Tang Yin and Qiu Ying, while also incorporating techniques from Chen Hongshou. During the Jiaqing and Daoguang periods, he was active in the Guangdong art scene as a professional painter.
