Introduce: Chinese lacquer ware has been brought to Japan for a long time and has been carefully handed down over time. Chinese lacquer ware uses a variety of techniques not found in traditional Japanese lacquer ware. Among them, lacquer ware using the technique of "carved lacquer", which thickens the thickness by applying lacquer many times and carves patterns, was very useful as a rare item.
As is clear from the treasures of Shosoin, Chinese lacquer ware is known to have been shipped from the Nara period. From the latter half of the Heian period to the Muromachi period, it was used as furniture and gifts at Zen Buddhist temples, and gradually spread to samurai families and was displayed at gatherings such as kaisho. During the Edo period, it became popular especially in the world of tea ceremony. With the acceptance of Chinese lacquer ware in Japan, it seems that the demand for appraisals to determine whether or not the product is made in China has increased in the early modern period, and there are some works with an appraisal certificate.
This exhibition is an opportunity for people to get to know the charm of Chinese lacquer ware, focusing on the collections of the Kosetsu Museum, which has not been introduced so far.
