【Overview】
One of the greatest masterpieces by the 17th-century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, Girl with a Pearl Earring, the treasured icon of the Mauritshuis, will be presented in Japan. Centered on this celebrated work, the exhibition will be held at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka, from August 21 to September 27, 2026.
Following its appearance in the 2012 Mauritshuis Exhibition, which attracted approximately 1.2 million visitors, Girl with a Pearl Earring returns to Japan after an interval of fourteen years. Martine Gosselink, Director of the Mauritshuis, has described this journey as “perhaps the last special opportunity to bring the Girl to audiences in Japan.”
In addition to Girl with a Pearl Earring, the exhibition features Vermeer’s early masterpiece Diana and Her Companions, together with outstanding examples of Dutch painting from the same period. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience these exceptional works firsthand.
