Introduce:

Tadao Ando, born in Osaka, is a self-taught architect who began his architectural design activities in 1969. Since then, he has continuously broken conventional ideas, producing a series of innovative architectural works. From the 1990s onward, he expanded his activities globally, while also contributing to social initiatives such as environmental regeneration and disaster recovery projects. His energetic involvement across multiple fields, beyond the confines of architecture, has earned him high praise both in Japan and internationally.

This exhibition, held at "VS." — a new cultural facility at the forefront of the Osaka Urban Regeneration Project, to which Ando has dedicated many years — offers a comprehensive view of his creative journey.

The venue is divided into two main sections: "The Trajectory of Challenges" and "Tadao Ando's Present."

The first section showcases all of Ando’s representative works from residential buildings to sacred spaces and cultural facilities like museums.

The second section introduces Ando's current projects, ranging from long-term works like the "Naoshima Projects" to the restoration of historical buildings such as the "Bourse de Commerce," and social contribution projects like the "Children’s Library Forest."

For more than half a century, Ando has been at the forefront of architecture, continuing to live his "youth" through ongoing challenges. His life message as a "fighting architect" will undoubtedly provide great inspiration to all visitors.
