Introduce:The Haruhi-kai, a thriving art group that remains active to this day, was established in 1923. Composed of founding members, including artists who had left the Western Painting Division of the Japan Art Institute, which was the largest private art organization at the time, the group was joined by emerging and talented artists to form the new entity known as "Haruhi-kai."
They did not aim to be a collective of artists with the same artistic doctrine, but rather, they believed in the importance of "individualism," respecting the individual artistic personalities of each artist.
Haruhi-kai was born as the third Western painting group to compete with the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and the Nikakai, organized by already well-known and prestigious artists. This exhibition aims to trace the tumultuous developments from its founding until the 1950s, featuring over 100 works that reflect the struggles and conflicts faced by the group during this period.
